I like fairytales as much as the next person, but, please, allow me to tell you about a real princess.
Isabel, Imperial Princess of Brazil.
She was the heir to the throne. She was in charge when her father, Emperor Pedro II, was away. Princess Isabel was one of the few women in the 19th century to rule a country.
Her plans for government the end of slavery, a compensation for the former slaves and women’s vote.
Princess Isabel did end slavery. She was ruling as regent on the absense of her father and signed Lei Áurea.
One year later, militaries declared my country a republic and banished the Emperial Family during the night.
Isabel moved to France and lived the rest of her days on her husband’s states (Count of Eu was a French nobleman.)
I can’t summarize how remarkable this woman was in a few words. I think she would have made a wonderful Emperess.
